Busy semester

Hallo Sponsors

First of all, I would like to thank you for sponsoring my education. I never take it for granted because I see my fellow students failing to do exams because of fees balance. I once again thank you very much. Without you all, I wouldn’t make it this far!! It truly means a lot to me. My semester for first semester third year has ended.  I have had a busy semester.
Only one month in class and the remaining two months working in the clinical placement. I have worked in the intensive care unit at Kampala international hospital. It was a very good experience learning how to interpret the ECG, and the ABGs. The ICU in this hospital is well equipped and its ranked the best in Uganda. It has about 15-20 beds and each bed has got all the necessary requirements for it to be considered an ICU bed. I also worked in the accident and emergency department, here we were for receiving patients, stabilizing them and send them to the ICU. Those who could become stable, we could retain them in the accident and emergency department.
I have also worked in Naguru hospital, I work in the labour ward. I learnt how to assist a woman give birth. In the one month I spent their, I managed to assist 10 women give birth. I also worked in the antenatal care unit. Where women would be examined and data I’d taken.
As a young leader in Uganda, I was invited to attend a conference where all young leaders from the African continent attended. It was a good experience for me to learn from people who are way off better than me. The conference took place from 6 to 8 December. All pictures are attached
Thank you all

Thank you for the opportunity of school

I appreciate you all

The coolest and scariest place on earth

Hello my dear sponsors.  How are you doing?

Well,  on my side!. I am doing my clinical  placement at international hospital kampala.  I am working in the intensive care unit.  The best ICU unit in Uganda.  It has got 11 beds.
The coolest and scariest place on earth
We started our placement this week on Monday and so far I have learnt to take an ECG,  doing a blood sugar,  airway cares: endotracheal and oral suctioning, and mixing and administering medications via different routes Ie nasogastric, nebulised intravenous.
By the end of this week,  I will have learnt more.
Thank you all to my sponsors who make this possible by paying my tuition.
Thank you all
Thank you the opportunity of school

The most powerful weapon to change the world

My long life dream of attending medical school is moving forward, thanks to you all for the generous educational support like yours. My dream is becoming a reality at international health science university. This support gives me an opportunity to earn skills will serve the medical community following my graduation in 2020. Thank you for your generosity while giving. Without you such people like me would be unable to pursue advanced degree in nursing.

This semester has been intense coupled with several classes a week plus months of clinical practice. It’s our university habit to do several progressive tests prior to final exams. That’s what has been making me busy. We have done six course units and that’s clinical nursing, community health nursing, health assessment, microbiology, pathology and pharmacology, the last three being hard for me this semester. We begun our exams on 8th of December 2017 to 15th of December 2017. The academic report will be out in January.
I spent the months of November and October working in the clinical area at international hospital Kampala, I worked on several wards like orthopaedic ward, intensive care unit, pediatric ward, labor ward, emergency ward and in the theatre. I really wanted to take some photos while in the wards but that was against the principles of the hospital. Pictures while standing outside the reception of the hospital are attached.
In my first and second semester reports to you all,  I talked about the need of laptop to aid in my study. Allow me thank Mr Jonas for doing everything possible under the sun to get a good laptop. This is one of the top most requirement for any study enrolling in the university. Its a very useful machine. Anytime now I can be able to access my work and downloaded books without going to the library especially for a student like me who stays far from campus. It was very challenging for me to do my courseworks. But now this is all history. It’s a Samsung laptop in a very fine working condition with a good battery. Thank you Mr Jonas. I really appreciate. Pictures of the laptop attached.
Currently alot is happening in Uganda, the medical sector is on strike for salary increment and allowance. In East Africa, Ugandan doctors and nurses are the least paid yet they do a great job in keeping a healthy and productive nation. Most of doctors and nurses at the degree level leave the country for greener pastures abroad or to the neighborhood of Kenya. Early this year, still the teachers and the judiciary also striked. The government needs to come out and revise the salaries of all people working in the public sectors.
In our parliament, fights and divisions  between the members of parliament are rampant and that is caused by the age limit debate which is intended to allow our president His Excellency yower museveni another chance to contest in 2021 . He has been the president for the last 30 years and so the Constitution doesn’t favor him in the next elections since he will be beyond 75 years of age. That’s why members of parliament belonging to his ruling party NRM want to lift the age bill which the members of parliament in the opposition parties don’t allow and also the public doesn’t want the age limit bill to be lifted.
Once again, thank you for the vote of confidence and the medical school support, I am committed to my education and to the health care field.
As Nelson Mandela said, “Education is the most powerful weapon we can use to change the world”. The most powerful weapon I will have in future at my disposal isn’t a gun, isn’t a sword or a bomb. The most powerful weapon is education. Am learning a lot today which is going to be valuable tomorrow. I will learn on it someday. It will help me change the world.
Merry Christmas and happy New year to you all.
Yours faithfully

Holidays and looking forward

I wish to thank you for the support and help you provide, for your dedication, attention and open minded thinking and for readiness to help with very prompt response to my requests. Thank you for paying tuition in time always.

As i began my studies in august of 2016, my financial situation prevented me from purchasing a laptop computer for my studies, though it wasnt anyone responsibility to buy me one, but i want to thank mr jonas from Holland who volunteered to help me with one. its still in Italy but i have hope that soon it will find its way to uganda and then to me.

my dear sponsors , thank you for opening this door of school which is a huge step for me and for giving me strength to persist and succeed . thank you for everything with blessings to this second year.

My second year semester one began on 14th of august 2017. Lectures will run from the 14th of august 2017 to 13th october 2017.  Practicum will begin begin on 16th october to 10th novermber .. Reading week for exams will begin on the 13th -17th of November and exams will begin on the 20th to 01st of December.

I want to bring it to your attention my  dear sponsors that I have been down since the start of this week because of malaria and flu, but now I am better.

About my holidays
Since at university we don’t carry holiday work home, so i decided to start visiting secondary schools to inspire students to be what they want to be in life,  not give up because of certain set backs, to empower their minds, you know most people think having no leg is the greatest disability but to me i think the greatest disability is the mind. Many students or youths quickly give up and when you give up, then their is no hope.

Just because they don’t see a solution in their challenges, it doesn’t mean their is no hope.  So together with team I have visited two schools in this holiday
1. Bishop cipriano kihangire were I gave a motivational talk to 1000 students
2. Brilliant high school were I gave a motivational talk to about 800 students .. .
Visiting these school has made realise that their are so many challenges students and their is a need for psychotherapy.
I will resume visiting schools, counseling those who are amputated and help them in rehabilitation.

That’s how my holiday had been like. Hope u have enjoyed reading through. Photos of school visitation are attached..

Thank you for the opportunity of school
I appreciate you all

Year 1 End Reflections with academic report for semester 2

Hallo my dear sponsors, I am privileged to write to you again, I hope you enjoy reading my first year reflections together with my academic semester 2 report.

From my personal experiences as a first year nursing student, medical school so far can only be described as a strange suspension of confiscated time-space.

In these two semesters of year one, we have been powered through full themes with overwhelming amount of information, new pieces to memories, new conceptual dots to connect through research.

Reflecting back on the progress we have made, time seemed to have crept fast us unknowingly like some undectable ninja, but I tried to focus on each individual moment, each day felt as if it were stretched out into near endless tunnels as I trudge through the wealth of knowledge I were expected to learn. I wished for the pace of our studies to simultaneously slow down and go fast. Take about indecision.

Aside my struggles to accept the academic and social difficulties that encompass the medical school more so when your an amputee, the first year has been most a humbling experience. Even  though I have failed to get the GPA I want, at least am thankful that I have no resits and still a credit is a good performance..Academic report semester 2 is attached.

Outside class I am always surprised by new things that I learn from standardised patients and my fellow classmates. In same way, because of my charitable or humanitarian works I do through my organisation ( not yet registered). I was invited to attend a a leadership and management corhot 2017 conference in Nigeria fully sponsored. But I wasn’t able to go because the travel period collided with my examination period, I treasure my academics more than anything else. Invitation letter attached!!

As  second year begins on 14th August 2017, I am very thankful to each one of you my dear sponsors, for you have supported and loved me through year one and I hope that you will continue supporting me along the way till I finish my course.

I hope that I have honoured you all with my slow and continued growth as both in academic world and on the individual basis. I hope to keep honouring you with each step of my life. Thank you and thank you very much for paying my tuition in time, may God bless you all.

Thank you all for the opportunity of school,
I appreciate you all,

Gratitude

I am always pleased to make every effort to communicate to you my dear sponsors regarding the current status of school and my personal life. Once again I thank you all for the opportunity of school, the responsibility to monitor my student university account to ensure that all my fees are paid and received by the university in time, a role played by mr Jan Henk.

I finished my end of semester exams on 30th May 2017.
I appreciate all the love, you stand out among your peers to support me.  Your educating me now which is something that nobody will ever take away from me or uneducate me. I feel happy for you my sponsors that your efforts will never go in vain. Blessings to you all, to your families and friends supporting me.

Hands-on clinical practice

Dear my sponsors.
It’s always a great pleasure for me to commune with you all.
By and by I have come to appreciate how fortunate I am to be attending this course in this university.

I like it, it challenges me as a handicap student but I have not let that stand in the way, I try harder and it gets better.

We have been visiting the wards for more clinical knowledge. I feel I have more practical knowledge than the theory I put on paper during exams. They say that the nursing field is “hands on” and with that I guess i make a great nurse.
We have also been visiting the communities to appreciate the causes of different diseases in certain areas.
The semester has been a busy one with progressive tests, community visits and course works. I will be beginning my end of semester exams around 20th of next month.

My only setback has been a lot of research topics lectures correspondence, course work gets channeled through internet. However I try to make it work out for me by using the university library.
Our university is a good one. It doesn’t not suffer the students unrests that have been the problem of many public universities paralysing work and interrupting studies. I am happy about that.

I have also made many friends, joined different clubs. I was nominated to head the Red Cross Club in the university.
It has exposed me more  to the public . I was invited to one of the TV stations here to talk about how I copied with PTSD and depression and the response was encouraging to the viewers based on the feedback I have been receiving m

We have our organization called Second Chances Arise International and have been doing charitable and voluntary work. It helps to keep the hope alive.
We have been volunteering whenever they have been community medical camps along side medics.

My family is OK, my mum is proud of the man you are making to become.
I sometimes develop bruises and wounds around the area that was amputated, I think it is because of the friction from work to lecture room. It would  put me on a bed rest for 2-4 days but overall it’s OK.

I thank you the continued support and encouragement of my education.

Sincerely
Thank you the opportunity of school,
I appreciate you all

Women’s day

Hallo everyone, how are you doing?

Hope this message finds you in the right mood!!
Well for me I will say that everything is moving on quiet well except the early morning rains that make it hard for me to be at school on time. Here in Uganda we are in the rain season but unfortunately some areas especially in the northern are experiencing serious  drought and some people and cattle  are dying because of lack of food and pastures.

3rd march is women’s day here in Uganda where we celebrate women and their achievements. And on this same day yesterday my university held its annual cultural gala where different groups of student are given a chance to show case there different cultures. Uganda being a heterogeneous country, it has a diversity of cultures and this is the same story with the university as it has students coming from Nigeria, Somalia, Zimbabwe, DRC Congo, Tanzania, Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi and Eritrea. This makes the annual cultural  gala competitions very interesting as both local and foreign students staged good performances yesterday. It was very interesting to miss a session. Big up to all the participants as we also had 10  students visiting from Finland.

I was stunned while watching the cultural plays. The students looked professional.
I made friends yesterday from other faculties. Really the cultural gala was a great platform for students to show talent. I danced on one leg which the university VC and the crowd enjoyed seeing. It was full of fun.
I wouldn’t have gotten a chance to enjoy seeing different cultures yesterday if you ( my sponsors) hadn’t made it possible for me to be in school .. Thank you very much..Words can never describe how much am grateful for all the efforts sacrificed for me to be in school!!
Enjoy the pictures attached

Sincerely
Thank you for the opportunity of school

Academic report first semester 2016

Hallo everyone
I hope this email finds you in the best mood!!!! Its good to note and remember that there are people out there who are concerned about the underprivileged. You have shown your concern by stretching your hand towards my education in my first year of school.  A lot of great things can be said about you my sponsors more than you can ever know and I thank you for everything. God bless you and your families.

The main product of most universities worldwide at the end of each semester is a university written detailed report indicating the performance of each of their students. And I know that my sponsors care enough and require to know how I progressed in the exams!!

My end of first semester exams were released yesterday by the university!!  At international health science university, in a semester we do course works and a progressive test which when combined carry 40%.  End of semester exams carry 60%.

<Click for the report>

Now looking at my detailed academic report. My challenge was balancing the scores between the progressive tests with the end of semester exams. Since this has been my first semester in college, I pledge to improve on my performance!!

I also want to let you know that I got a B in anatomy but I was given a C so the dean told me to wait as they will electrify that.. So my Gp is supposed to be around 4. Though that’s not the best I can get.
Am sure that using last semesters experience will help me improve on my performance this time around.

Please my dear sponsors, read through my results and comment or advise. Am open to all comments and advise. I will be happy to hear from you all!!
Attached are my results.

Sincerely
Thank you for the opportunity of school,
I appreciate you all,
